Leave Animals Alone
Another tip is to avoid touching
wild animals. It's fine to look but not to touch. Wild animals
may not react well if you try to touch them and handling a cute
baby animal could result in it being rejected by its mother.
It may seem harmless to move
a log or a rock, but many small animals live in these places,
so you could be disturbing an animal's home. Similarly, the best
thing you can do for plants is to leave them in their natural
habitat.
When you're visiting a park or
other eco-friendly attraction, follow any instructions given
by guides and rangers. These will help to protect both you and
the habitat.
The Three Rs
It's never good to litter, but
it's even worse if it's despoiling a natural environment. You
wouldn't want anyone to dump their garbage on your doorstep and
the animals don't either.
Use trash cans or recycling bins
wherever these are available; if they are not, then take your
rubbish back with you. The three Rs ñ reduce, reuse, recycle
ñ also work well when visiting Florida.
It's a good idea to take reusable
resources such as water bottles, spoons and forks so that you
can avoid contributing any more waste to the environment.
Lodging And Transport
If it's possible to use eco friendly
transport then do it. In many of the parks you can get around
on foot or on a bike, reducing the noxious emissions that go
into the air.
It's another way to help to preserve
the natural environment, as those toxic chemicals aren't good
for any of us. If you have to drive, then look for a company
that offers 'green' cars, which minimize the environmental impact
of driving.
There are also many green hotels
which are eco friendly and try to reduce their energy consumption.
Eating in places that serve local food rather than in big chains,
and buying locally produced gifts and souvenirs are other things
that you can do to help preserve the environment when you travel.
Florida has a great deal of natural
beauty and it is doing its part to preserve it by creating places
which are havens for endangered or threatened plant and animal
species. You can do your part too, by engaging in eco-friendly
travel practices. That will help to ensure that these natural
spaces continue to thrive well into the future.
