Protecting Endangered Species

Similarly, the Everglades State Park protects many rare and endangered species that live in the 1.5 million acre site.

There are many centers dedicated to saving animals such as turtles and birds which have been harmed by man's actions and there are refuges for birds, deer and other animals.

Laws are also in place to protect sharks and other species which are in danger of being fished to extinction.

In planning for the future, Florida faces issues to do with land use, water supply and energy use, but visitors to the state can also do a lot to keep its environment in good condition.

Helping The Environment When You Travel

Learning about the flora and fauna that form part of Florida's natural environment is the first step in appreciating the beauty and diversity of this natural world. This is an easy step to take as many of the attractions provide guided tours with guides who really know their subject inside out.

Even if you are not taking a guided tour, don't be tempted to stray off the path. The trails are there because they will allow you to appreciate the natural beauty while causing the least possible damage to the environment. Leave the trail, and you never know when you might trample on a rare plant or affect the environment of a species that is under threat.
